We sell freshly baked natural sourdough and rye breads from the German Bakery

This delicious bread, which is delivered hot from the Bakery every Saturday, is available in a variety of forms, including Pumpkin Seed, Sunflower Seed, Onion, Potato, Sesame & Ginger and Plain. All of these breads are 70% rye/30% wheat.

In addition to this, The Bakery produces a 100% rye loaf,which is suitable for those with total wheat/gluten intolerance. To avoid disappointment, it is recommended that these are ordered in advance.

Compared to wheat-based bread, rye is much less likely to cause symptoms and conditions linked with food intolerance such as abdominal bloating and fatigue. Also, recent studies suggest that eating rye bread can lower cholesterol levels too. In a study published in the Journal of Nutrition, rye bread reduced cholesterol levels by an impressive 10 per cent.

Rye is a good source of fibre and gives a feeling a fullness and satiety, making rye bread ideal for anyone trying to lose weight

A study published in the November 2003 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that bread made from wheat triggers a greater insulin response than rye bread does. Rye can help to prevent high blood sugar levels in diabetic patients, thereby helping with blood sugar control.
